I think u need EAD to apply for SSN. But once you apply for SSN , you dont need actual card to start wroking,

My wife's EAD just got approved. Now I have to get her a SSN so she can start working part time. Firstly I should ask can she get a SSN provided her I-485 application is filed and she has a valid EAD ? Any idea how long it takes to get the dang SSN ? I appreciate your help as always.

You are on 8th year of extension and this is a very stressful moment for you.
IV probably can't help you a lot at this time as it is after the fact but it can help others before such thing happens.
We are a growing union, which is run by people like you and me. If folks are not actively involved loobying for a) getting laws changed b) developing relationships with law makers and USCIS c) creating leverage of our unity over lawyers, these incidents will continue to happen.
If we had become powerful enough, then in the cases like this IV would have hold high level meeting with USCIS to resolve this gentleman problem. But unfortunately, we are still a strugling union to get members to volunteer.

I checked my case status in July 07 and it displayed case closed. I called my lawyer and basically the response I got was she did not respond in time to a rescruitment instructions report sent by DOL in March 07 and hence the case was closed. My company has been supportive through this process and its only my lawyer whose been horrible.
While part of me wanted to do strangle her, the other part (guessing the sendible part) made me realize I needed to get this resolved.
1. Have any of you been in this situation and had your case reopened and if so, how?
2. Can I change my attorney in this situation and have him/her try to get the case reopened?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Sports really is a challenge, I still don't get many keepers - I noticed this time I tend to rush things and probably cause a lot of bluriness through camera shake, and don't follow the players well enough for the AF to lock on reliably. Practice, practice...

I did get the cashed checks printouts and also changed the address in USCIS couple days back. The questions are:
- Assuming that USCIS has already sent the reciepts/EAD to my previous address and I have a redirection at USPost office to my new address.
Will they be redirected to my new address? Or is there is a policy on USCIS reciept mails that the mails from USCIS can't be redirected to a new address but need to be returned back unless the new address is updated in USCIS?

actually our situation is similar to a bunch of people sitting under a mango tree ..the green mangoes on the tree represent the green card.
those waiting for the mango are standing on a uncertain muddy ground and few will sink in the sand (due to job losses).
we have some robbers (labor substitutions) who climb the tree, steal the mangoes and run away.
the natives (only the anti-immigrants) want to cut down the tree so that no immigrant gets a mango
a majority or us who are waiting patiently are the law abiding ...but we wait for the mango to fall on our head rather than doing something to make the mango fall ..while waiting we fight and discuss silly issues (whether we should buy a house - how to get our maid on visa :)).
some of us while our status was on quick sand - went ahead and built a house thinking that GC would follow
now if only all of us were to come up with an effective plan and shake the tree or throw tons of stones on the tree ..then maybe everyone would get a mango sooner.

Two things:
1. You might benefit from 245(k) provisions. Check with your attorney.
2. Do not provide tax returns. it is not required at the time of filing of green card application.

I know someone who went to Canada for the weekend and got the I-94 with the correct date on it.
Note that the airline (AA), on his way out of the US, was not willing to take his I-94 since he was going for less than 30 days. So he had to explain to them about his situation and they took it.
Also note that if you have an Indian passport, you will need a visa to go to Canada.
The other option to extend your I-94 is for your employer to refile I-129, and request for extension of stay. This can be done using premium processing.
I did the same thing . Except I returned my I94 while returning to US as the airlines did not take my I94. While returning I just explained my situation to immigration officer and she was knowlegable and issued a new I94.

I am confused regarding the answers and would really appreciate any help answering them. Please review below staus for family and I and advise. Your reasons supporting the answer would be extremely helpful and much appreciated.

-Working in US since 2004 on a H1B so this is my 7th year extension.
-This would be the second instance of filing the extension working with the same company -I switched my H1B to back in 2006.
-I-140 was filed in March 2007 and approved in October the same year.
-I-485 for family and I was filed in July/August wave in 2007.
-LCA was filed last week and H1B renewal and extension of stay petition is expected to be filed next week. I have only 2 1/2 months remaining. Should that be a worry?
I had been using an attorney for all my previous filings for any kind of case but don't want to go back to him any more because of the quality of service, or lack thereof, I have been receiving from him lately. Not to mention the fee he has quoted is 50% more than last time. Even my office finds the amount to be very outrageous therefore they have decided to help me out and file the case themselves.

Need help on which application to withdraw. I did file 1-765 paper application with the Nebraska service center. For a month, I had no receipt from them. So I called them to see if they could get me with the receipt number, but to no avail.
Having thought that it might have been lost in the mail, I e-filed this time to Texas Center and had the receipt immediately after submission. Today I check my bank account only to be seen that the the check I issued to the Nebraska service center for my first application has been posted.
Now I'm thinking of which one to withdraw. I'm thinking of keeping the one with the Texas service center since EAD applications are faster processed there than at the Nebraska service center. Do you see any possibility of refund?
Your response would be very much appreciated.

They tell this to everybody. A very common answer. They told me so, so to my 2 other friends but in either cases, no GC was approved inspite of our PDs were current. And later it turned out that my name check is pending (don't know what is 180 rule mean) when I took Infopass.
So don't believe those CS answering over the phone. They say name check is clear when it is not clear, they say I-485 processing date is 2006, April when processing date is 2007, April 28. Bunch of junkies or may be summer interns (all called I made around summer time).
To be CS in USCIS the only qualification you need is to be an US Citizen with back ground check cleared and a high school diploma :-(.
How a person can understand with the above qualification all those difficult stuff like PD, RD, AP, EAD, LC, 485, 140 !!!
And some CS even referring my I-485 application as I-40 :-( repeatedly.
They may have to answer so many other complicated cases in Family category as well. Like what happen when spouse gets divorced? Can one file dependent GC if he/she is gay? Some one got married one US citizen after crossing the broader illegally, can she/he get GC? Can a son/daughter from stepmother apply for GC? So don't blame them either.

Last month I called TSC and got a really nice IO. I was checking on my FBI name check status and he told me that he can get more details by A# instead of receipt NO. He in fact found my A# as i only had receipt number handy. He than told me that the FBI checks are cleared and my case is assigned to an IO.
Does case assigned to an IO means that when Visa nos are available i have chance to get GC? Does it mean it is adjudicated and waiting for visa NO?

I didn't presser my parents about the bc and i took INS doctors appointment next week, thinking that dates are current for complete month why rush? so I can't file by tomorrow
You did the right thing. Nothing is going to retrogress atleast till the 15th of the month(this is when the Visa bulletin usually comes out).
